The disturbance caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for businesses was a blunt cue of why responsive supply chains have become an essential competitive discriminator for firms in the entire industry. New, divergent thinking determines that the recent, outside-the-box review recognizes that a growing number of risks emerge from the mass of political, economic, health, and political crises that have challenged the supply chain networks in recent times. The COVID-19 pandemic is not considered as just a short-term crisis. It has continuing inferences for how people perform and how supply chains operate. There are persistent requirements for firms to create enduring flexibility in their supply chains for handling potential challenges. It needs general approaches to address the supply chains. Firms should create sufficient suppleness to protect themselves against future disturbances. They should also develop a robust framework that involves a flexible and responsive risk management capability. That capability should be technology-driven, supporting platforms that help adopt artificial intelligence, applied analytics, and machine learning.
