The case explores the changes that the coronavirus pandemic has brought to the education system in the United Arab Emirates, particularly in the higher education sector. It highlights the challenges that the colleges and universities in the region faced in the implementation of distance learning in response to the COVID-19 situation. Particularly, it examines how they were able to plan and execute the changes immediately, touching on the readiness of the higher education system to transition from the traditional classroom setup into online learning. The case highlights the contribution of the UAE’s investments in information communication technologies (ICT) into the smooth transition to distance learning. The efforts that have been made years prior to the pandemic have allowed many higher education institutions to swiftly move to distance learning and ensure that students can continue their education remotely.
